The Miami Hurricanes are just two wins away from claiming their sixth national championship, but the school is already tinkering with what next year’s roster might look like.

Senior quarterback Carson Beck led the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff semifinal round after a first-round upset of No. 7 Texas A&M and a quarterfinal upset of defending national champion Ohio State.

But Beck’s eligibility is about to run out, and Maimi head coach Mario Cristobal is trying to line up another capable starter ready to step right in and pick up where Beck leaves off.

Miami has been linked to several of the top QBs in the transfer portal, including Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt and Florida’s DJ Lagway, but according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Hurricanes wasted no time making an NIL offer to another top-ranked passer on Friday, hours after the portal officially opened.

“According to a source, Miami has made an offer to Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby, who’s considered by some to be the top QB in the portal,” Jackson wrote.

“… Sorsby, a dual-threat quarterback, has been considering UM, LSU and Texas Tech and plans to visit LSU’s and Texas Tech’s campus in the coming days. But Miami has not been ruled out. LSU and Texas Tech have among the highest NIL budgets in the country, and UM has a big one, as well.”

Jackson also indicated that offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson “has high regard” for backup QB Emory Williams, but team wants to add a “high-end veteran starter” for a potential CFP run in 2026.

Chris Karpmann of 247Sports reported on Friday that Sorsby is expected to land quite the lucrative pay day.

“Industry buzz is that Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby, the No. 1 QB in the 247Sports portal rankings, could earn $5m+ this year at his new school,” he wrote. “To put that into perspective, that’s more money than ASU’s entire roster was paid in NIL during its Big 12 title season.”

Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Sorsby already has visits lined up with LSU and Texas Tech.

The 6-foot-3 junior passed for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns while rushing for another 580 yards and nine scores on the ground. In four seasons with Indiana and Cincinnati, Sorsby has totaled 7,208 yards and 60 touchdowns, plus 1,305 yards rushing and 22 additional touchdowns.
