Orlando City kicked off the new year by continuing to reload its midfield. The Lions announced on Friday that they acquired midfielder Braian Ojeda from Real Salt Lake after sending $1.3 million in General Allocation Money split in two seasons in exchange for the player.Ojeda, 25, saw his 2026 option picked up by Salt Lake prior to the trade, but Orlando City also announced that it signed the player to a new contract through the 2028-2029 season with a club option for the following season. Orlando City could send an additional $475,000 in GAM to RSL should Ojeda reach performance-based metrics and should the player get sold, Salt Lake will retain a percentage of the sale. The Paraguayan international spent five seasons at Real Salt Lake where he made 123 appearances. Ojeda’s arrival follows the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Luis Otavio from Sport Club Internacional. The move also reloads a midfield that will enter the 2026 preseason depleted, though for the most part because of injury. Wilder Cartagena and Joran Gerbet are still recovering from their respective long-term injuries. Orlando City moved on from Cesar Araujo following his contract expiring at the end of the year. Team needs Orlando City general manager and sporting director Ricardo Moreira will still need to sign a goalkeeper after the team decided not to renew Pedro Gallese. Carlos Coronel, an MLS free agent from the New York Red Bulls, was reportedly on the verge of signing with Orlando, but has since backed out. Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau is now heavily linked with the Lions following a season with the Portland Timbers. The team could still use another centerback and options at left-and-right back.
