Jacob Kiplimo will chase a third consecutive senior men’s title at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships here in Tallahassee, Florida, on January 10. The 25-year-old leads a 27-member Ugandan team looking to extend the nation’s dominance in the sport.
Kiplimo won the under-20 race in Kampala in 2017 before earning silver in the senior race in Denmark two years later. He went on to claim back-to-back senior titles in Bathurst, Australia, in 2023 and Belgrade, Serbia, in 2024.

Uganda’s women’s team features Sarah Chelangat, who finished fifth in Belgrade, and Joy Cheptoyek, seventh in the 10,000m final at the Tokyo World Championships. The under-20 women’s squad includes Charity Cherop, who earned bronze in the 5000m at the 2024 World Under-20 Championships.
The championships will include senior men’s and women’s races, under-20 competitions for both genders, and a mixed relay event. Uganda will field teams across all categories, with the likes of hosts USA, Kenya, Ethiopia, Spain, France, and Great Britain, all sending strong squads.
