One man is fighting for his life after he was shot Thursday outside of a home in Florida City.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at around 5:50 p.m. in the area of 501 Northwest 16th Street.

They found the victim and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed him to an area hospital in critical condition.

A witness who did not want to be identified told NBC6 that the victim was a family friend.

“It was horrible,” she said.

The two were chatting about music right before she said someone shot him in the head outside her home.

“We was just that close,” she said. “I seen it, when it hit him and everything, and it throwed him in the air.”

She said she was also watching her grandchildren play outside when someone drove up to the corner and opened fire, leaving bullet holes in the SUV parked outside her home.

“Oh, I was horrified. I mean like, my grandkids, only thing I was thinking about was my grandkids, and trying to get them to safety so we could run inside the house,” she said.

A man who lives nearby also told NBC6 that he saw the shooting happen.

“I just happened to be outside when the shooting took place. It was a white car,” he said. “[I] went over there, performed CPR on the individual, held his head so the bleeding would stop and slow down, made sure he didn’t pass away while he was laying on the ground with a gun wound to his head.”

Information about a suspect was not immediately available.

This is the second shooting in as many days in Florida City. Just blocks away early Tuesday morning, someone shot and killed a man named Carl Melvin on Facebook Live. Another man was hurt in that shooting as well.

It’s unclear whether the two incidents are connected.

Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputies are taking over the investigation from the Florida City Police Department.
