Miami delivered another upset performance to beat the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes (24-14) in Wednesday’s quarterfinal round and claim the first spot in the CFP semifinals. The Hurricanes defense delivered a masterful performance, holding the Buckeyes to just 45 rushing yards and interception two passes from quarterback Julian Sayin. A pick-six from Keionte Scott in the second quarter delivered a huge early blow to give Miami a 14-0 lead, and the Canes put the game away with a timely late fourth-quarter drive after Ohio State pulled to within 17-14 with 13:28 to play. Running backs CharMar Brown and Mark Fletcher Jr. accounted for Miami’s lone two touchdowns in a game where yards were hard to find for both sides.
