Universal Orlando Resort recently replaced a potentially offensive sign inside the Port of Entry area at Universal Islands of Adventure. The sign had been in place for decades and even survived a refurbishment of the area that ended in September 2025.

Offensive Sign Removed From Universal Islands of Adventure

On Friday, WDWNT reported that Universal Orlando Resort had quietly installed an additional mural on the exterior wall of a bathroom building in the Port of Entry area at Universal Islands of Adventure. The new sign is located below an existing mural that reads “Port of Entry Water Works Authority” alongside a water pump.

The updated mural features the Universal Islands of Adventure’s park icon, the Pharos Lighthouse, and splashes of water alongside text reading “Îles D’Aventure Eau De Toilette Spray Since 1999” (a joke referencing the restrooms inside the building). The French phrase translates to “Islands of Adventure Grooming Water/Scented Water.”

Before Universal Orlando Resort completed the new painting, the building featured only the “Port of Entry Water Works Authority” mural and a sign reading “Honorable Hu Nhow Plaza.” “Hu Nhow” is not a reference to or name of any known Universal character or property, though it is used in the video game “Warframe.”

The play on words of “Hu Nhow” could be considered offensive to several Asian cultures, as it potentially reads as a mockery of different languages, accents, and/or pronunciations.

Universal Orlando Resort simultaneously made several other changes to the Port of Entry area at Universal Islands of Adventure. Both the FuelRod machine and the Pressed Pennies machine, which used to sit in front of the alcove where the mural was painted, have been moved.

The FuelRod machine is now located on the other side of the restroom building, near the water fountains. The Pressed Pennies machine is now near the entrance to the men’s bathrooms, close to the rental lockers.

Interestingly, the “Honorable Hu Nhow Plaza” sign survived a very recent bathroom refurbishment at the Port of Entry in the fall of 2025. X (formerly known as Twitter) account @InsideUniversal shared photos of the updated area when it reopened in September, including the potentially offensive sign:

It’s unclear what led Universal Orlando Resort to remove the “Honorable Hu Nhow Plaza” sign at Universal Islands of Adventure. The Central Florida vacation destination hasn’t issued a statement about the change.
