The Miami Hurricanes pulled off a stunning upset in the College Football Playoff, defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes, a team that had lost only once all season. Now, Miami is facing another tough squad with just one loss, as they meet Ole Miss in the CFP semifinal.
They’ll take on a Rebels team surrounded by drama. Despite their former coach, Lane Kiffin, leaving for the LSU job, the Rebels responded with wins in the first and second rounds of the CFP, including an impressive Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia.
A lot of that is due to Ole Miss’s stellar quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, who can make incredible passes when it seems he has nowhere to go. Along with that, they showed a defensive intensity in taking down the Bulldogs in the quarterfinal matchup.
With that in mind, Super Bowl winner and national champion with Miami, Michael Irvin, recently put the Hurricanes on notice about their next game against Ole Miss.

“I was enjoying this game, Ole Miss and Georgia, but thinking about the next game as they get ready or as we get ready to play the winner, and Ole Miss is going to be a problem,” Irvin shared on his YouTube video.
He likened Ole Miss’s talented quarterback Chambliss to “a Patrick Mahomes guy” due to his mobility and playmaking abilities. Irvin praised the Rebels’ receivers for tallying well over 200 receiving yards.
“I’m telling you, it was talent all over the field at Ole Miss,” he said, “Ole Miss has good offense. They beat you with a lot of schemes.”
“They are a tough team,” Irvin shared, adding that Georgia attempted to “bully” Miami and get physical, which almost worked.
“Ole Miss isn’t going to give us what Georgia would have,” the former Dallas Cowboys great claimed, calling the Rebels “the epitome of fight.”
Irvin suggested this will be a “testing place” for the Hurricanes, as they’ll have to ensure they “get the offense going” or risk being in trouble against Ole Miss.
“Ole Miss is gonna give us a tough one,” he said, “because Ole Miss is gonna score some points and Miami is gonna have to score some points.”
In their win over the Bulldogs, the Rebels scored 39 points, including a few late safety points as the game ended. Miami has scored 10 points and 24 points in its first two CFP games, suggesting it could need an elite defensive performance or a strong offensive output to beat Ole Miss.
With the Fiesta Bowl matchup on Thursday, Irvin said he was “hyped” about the game and welcomed the idea of Miami reaching the championship game, which will be in Miami, giving the Hurricanes a home-field advantage.
