January 3, 2026 – Personal finance platform WalletHub recently compared 180 U.S. cities across 28 key indicators of economic disadvantage, including child poverty, food insecurity and uninsured rates, to determine the “neediest cities in America” for 2026. St. Petersburg ranked No. 117 overall, No. 133 for economic well-being and No. 87 for health and safety. Detroit paced the nation, and Hialeah (No. 49) was the “neediest” city in Florida. Tampa ranked No. 129.
