FORT MYERS, Fla. – North Florida Men’s Soccer fell late in a hard-fought road match at FGCU, 1-0, at The FGCU Soccer Complex on Saturday night.
With the result, North Florida moves to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the ASUN.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Luciano Natoli played the full 90 minutes in goal for the 13th time this season. North Florida was narrowly outshot 10-9, but held a 3-1 margin in shots on goal and 6-5 in corner kicks.
North Florida attacked on the offensive third in the initial 45 minutes and outshot its hosts 5-3 and 3-0 in shots on goal prior to the halftime break.
North Florida looked to take the lead in the 62nd minute when junior defender Paul Schacherer serviced a ball into the box that was played into the back of the net before it resulted in an offsides call.
FGCU netted the go-ahead score in the 88th minute.
Overall, 16 Ospreys logged time in the road match. Natoli, Schacherer, junior midfielder Tyler Prebenda, senior defender Alex Barnett, senior defender Jaylen Yearwood, sophomore midfielder Anton Khelil, sophomore midfielder Rafa Rios and sophomore forward Kaiss Mansouri played the full time.
North Florida hosts crosstown rival Jacksonville at Hodges Stadium to close out its River City Rumble season series on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
