Orlando Pirates have announced the permanent signing of Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC for an undisclosed fee.

The New Zealand forward becomes the first acquisition for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side in the ongoing January transfer window, with more new faces expected to arrive.

Since joining the Cape Winelands outfit in January 2023, De Jong scored 19 goals and laid 11 assists in 114 matches across all competitions.

Now, with three goals and a solitary assist in 22 matches this season, the 29-year-old utility player adds more firepower in the Bucs’ arsenal.

Notably, De Jong can operate as a center-forward and is comfortable playing in between the lines as a no.10, which provides Ouaddou with the opportunity to use different combinations.

The former Stellies talisman is expected to help the Buccaneers to their first championship since the 2011/12 campaign as they currently top the Betway Premiership table.

Pirates are two points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one game more in the thrilling title race.

Ouaddou’s men will return to league action with a clash against Sekhukhune United on 24 January after the conclusion of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
