On Thursday, Oct. 9, The First Coast Cultural Center opened a new exhibit featuring the work of three local artists. The opening reception was a success as family, friends and gallery guests gathered to support the artists and see their creations. Visitors enjoyed viewing the art, meeting the artists and savoring the refreshments.
Visitors can view Cynthia Spitzer’s beautiful photography. She captured the essence of bright blooms and lush plants from her camera lens. She enjoys editing her photos and experimenting with perspective, color and size.
Inspiration can strike anywhere. She said she was inspired by the beauty of the plants at the supermarket and had to take some photos.
Jami Childer’s paintings of birds, blooms, koi and landscapes are vivacious. She is inspired by the beauty and joy of nature.
She begins her painting process with watercolor pencil sketches softened with acrylic medium and then builds layers of paint that allows the underpainting to shine through.
Mike Wodrich’s sculptures are vibrant and thought-provoking. He works with a wide range of materials including glass, steel, stone, wood and ceramics. Additionally, he often includes found objects to add to his art, such as parts salvaged from a 1984 Porsche.
He is inspired by how humanity deals with challenges of the 21st century.
The new exhibits will be on display through Jan. 2. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Mondays and some Sundays are available by appointment.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The Recorder will focus on each of these artists in future issues.
