Disney has started work on Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom. A notice appeared on the My Disney Experience app today confirming the project is underway.
The message reads: “Cinderella Castle is currently undergoing a magical transformation.”
The castle will get a new color scheme inspired by its original 1971 appearance. Disney revealed the plans at the Destination D23 event last year.
The updated palette includes:
Grays and creams for the stonework
Blues for the roofs
Gold accents on the spires
First Steps: Draining the Moat
The first visible step involves draining the moat around Cinderella Castle. This gives crews access to lower sections of the structure and allows them to prepare surfaces for painting.
Cranes will be used to reach the higher sections. Disney plans to lower and remove these cranes from view by noon each day. This approach limits their impact on daytime park views and your photos.
Disney hasn’t announced a completion date for the overall project.
Entertainment Adjustments
Starting January 28, Disney will modify some entertainment offerings around the castle.
Let the Magic Begin welcome show will run in a modified format during the repainting project.
Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire and Happily Ever After will continue. Disney will make minor adjustments to these shows as needed while work progresses.
No end date has been announced for these entertainment changes. They’re expected to remain in place while exterior work continues on the castle.
