Older adults may find it challenging to use basic iPhone features for several reasons, including the device’s complex interface and small touchscreen buttons.

It’s even more challenging for adults with manual dexterity issues.

They shouldn’t despair, however, because Senior Tech Connect is sponsoring a series of workshops in Key Biscayne to help adults learn all they can about using their iPhone.

The national organization, which provides personalized, patient-focused digital literacy training for older adults, is bringing its session to the Key Biscayne Community Center’s Lighthouse Room at 11 a.m., on Saturdays, Jan. 10, Feb. 14 and March 14.

Senior Tech Connect digital experts will be on hand to help older adults build confidence with iPhones, smartphones, computers and online tasks like video calls, healthcare portals and scam prevention.

Its goal is to bridge the generation gap through accessible, hands-on learning and intergenerational support.

According to the organization, the iPhone’s crowded menus and small icons can lead to confusion and frustration for older adults who are not familiar with modern technology.

To make it more easier to use, Senior Tech Connect will introduce several features for people to independently use an iPhone and other technology devices.

“We cater to older and less technologically inclined adults and provide resources to help them learn to safely use technology’s tools to better connect with their loved ones, communities and our world,” the organization said in a statement. “Throughout our careers we have studied curriculum development and adult learning styles, we are committed to continual study in these areas as new knowledge and techniques are being discovered all the time and we’re excited to share this information.”

Senior Tech Connect said it’s difficult for older adults to keep up with the technology evaluation compared to younger people who often use features that can access social media and other tools.

It said some older adults get discouraged including those who have a hard time accessing their healthcare plans and benefits.

“We have noticed that with the changes in our world, many of our older and less technologically experienced family and friends are feeling left behind and disconnected from others,” the organization said. “The ways that most people communicate has drastically changed over the past few years and those that aren’t using these technologies are missing out on daily connections with family and friends.”

Those who are interested in the iPhone series at the Community Center must bring their iPhones and other devices.

The event is free for members and a $10 fee for non-members.
