A House Republican proposes repealing Florida’s bump stock ban

State Representative Toby Overdorf filed a proposal (HB 6021) for consideration that would repeal a ban on “bump stocks” that passed after the 2018 massacre at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Similar repeal bills were proposed in 2022 and 2025, but did not pass.

Florida bills could restore the Ocklawaha River

Environmentalists have sought for decades to restore the Ocklawaha River, which was dammed to create a reservoir as part of the long-abandoned Cross Florida Barge Canal project. SB 1066 and HB 981 will be considered for the legislative session that starts next Tuesday.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday that he believes more detention space is needed. DeSantis said the decision depends on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Tampa’s 113-year-old train station is getting a facelift. The renovation comes as the building, last renovated in the 90s, was seeing signs of wear and tear from termite damage, water leaks, and more.  WMNF’s Chris Young reports Union Station is set to begin a six-million-dollar renovation this year.

Pipeline safety regulators have imposed their largest fine ever on the company responsible for leaking the oil into the Gulf of Mexico off the Louisiana coast in 2023. The National Transportation Safety Board said Third Coast failed to establish proper emergency procedures and did not adequately assess risks.
