JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A man was arrested in connection with a Monday night shooting incident in Jacksonville, after police said he tried to flee a traffic stop.

In a news release, Commander of Investigations Kyle Chumley said the Jacksonville Police Department received numerous calls of shots fired in the 300 block of West Beecher Avenue Monday at 8:23 p.m. Responding officers discovered that a residence near the report of gunfire had been struck multiple times.

Officers determined that the occupants of the house were safe and that no one had been injured. Jacksonville Police detectives then arrived on the scene and processed it for any available evidence.

Throughout the evening, officers continued their investigation, collecting evidence and information in reference to the shots fired call.

Chumley said that at 4:04 a.m. on Tuesday, a Jacksonville officer conducted a stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 800 block of North Clay Avenue. During the stop, Chumley said 28-year-old Quantorius Courtney tried to flee from officers on foot.

Courtney was quickly apprehended and placed under arrest. During the traffic stop, a loaded handgun was located in the vehicle he was operating, and it was later found to be reported stolen.
