Residents who are interested in getting an in-depth look into Cape Coral’s government can now register for the 2026 Citizen’s Academy.
“We accept registrations until the class if full or up to Feb. 1.,” Communications Manager Melissa Mickey said in an email. “There are 20 seats available for each academy. We currently have 11 seats filled and nine openings.”
The weekly session will run on Tuesdays from Feb. 10, through April 1, with the final class and graduation taking place on Wednesday, April 1. Each session is eight hours and participants will gain behind-the- scenes access to such city departments as the Police Department, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation, all while connecting with city leaders and staff.
Other highlights of the academy include insight into decision-making processes that shape Cape Coral, opportunities to network with city officials and a comprehensive understanding of how the city works.
“It is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn more about city staff and services. We receive positive feedback from the participants after every academy,” Mickey said.
The academy is only open to Cape Coral residents.
Early registration is strongly encouraged and can be done at capecoral.gov.
