A dog that was found decapitated on Florida’s Turnpike in Miami-Dade on Tuesday was dead days before, deputies said.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the dog was deceased, and its body was decomposing when a vehicle struck and decapitated it.

Deputies said they concluded their investigation.
Miami-Dade County Animal Services released a statement that reads in part:
“Protecting animals, who cannot speak for themselves, relies on the vigilance of our community. Reporting suspicious activity directly to us is the first and most important step in any investigation. As with all crimes, cases of animal cruelty require careful documentation of evidence and witness accounts to ensure justice is served.”
