  • January 7, 2026

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WWSB) – Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital plans to hold a news conference today ahead of Jasmine’s release from the hospital.

Jasmine, a Bradenton teenager, has been recovering for weeks after what the hospital describes as life-saving surgery. Doctors removed a tumor from her abdomen. They also amputated her leg, which the hospital said weighed 170 pounds because of a rare condition.

Her family says she is ready to go home.

The news conference panel is expected to include Dr. S. Alex Rottgers, identified as Jasmine’s plastic surgeon, and Dr. Jennifer Lynne Root Mayer, identified as Jasmine’s oncologist. Jasmine is also expected to attend, along with her parents.

Hospital officials have not provided additional details in the announcement about Jasmine’s diagnosis or what her next steps in treatment and recovery may be.
