Early on in the 2025 college football season, the Florida State Seminoles and head coach Mike Norvell were looking like a potential championship contender. Unfortunately, the season has completely fallen apart.

After starting the year with a 3-0 record, the Seminoles have lost four straight games. Last night, the team’s latest loss came on the road against the Stanford Cardinal. They now sit at 3-4 on the season.

Obviously, Florida State’s hopes of competing for a national championship have come to an end. There is no chance to get into the College Football Playoff at this point. It’s a second straight disappointing season for the Seminoles.

Due to the loss to Stanford, Norvell has come under fire. Some fans are calling for Florida State to make a coaching change.

Mike Norvell, Florida State Seminoles

Following the most recent loss, fans took to social media clearly unhappy with Norvell and the program. The frustration is reaching a boiling point and the Seminoles might need to consider making a change.

“Florida State should just leave Mike Norvell in California, FSU is embarrassing,” one comment read.

Another said, “Mike Norvell has less ACC wins than Jeff Brohm who was hired at Louisville three years after Mike started at FSU.”

“Feels like I’m watching Mike Norvell’s funeral. Like, there’s no way they keep him around if FSU loses to a rebuilding Stanford team, right?” a third comment stated.

A fourth fan wrote, “What time today does Mike Norvell get fired?”

“Last Sunday it was James Franklin that got the boot. This Sunday it will be Mike Norvell,” a fifth fan said.

Since taking over as the team’s head coach back in 2020, Norvell has led the Seminoles to a 36-31 overall record and has gone just 20-24 in ACC play. That obviously isn’t going to get the job done.

Will Florida State make the move to fire Norvell? That remains to be seen, but his seat has grown incredibly hot. There is no guarantee that he will remain the head coach of the Seminoles moving forward.

That being said, it would be an expensive move for the program to fire Norvell. He holds a contract buyout of around $59.2 million if Florida State were to choose to move on from him now.
