The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested Nicholas A. Tollner (DOB 04/11/1981) of North Fort Myers, Florida, following an investigation into a series of theft incidents that occurred at a local Home Depot store between May 8 and May 29, 2025.

Officers responded to Home Depot located at 2508 Skyline Boulevard for a theft reported by the store’s Asset Protection staff. Asset Protection observed a male subject select merchandise, pass all points of sale without payment, and exit the store on May 29, 2025. Asset Protection personnel intervened and recovered approximately $698 worth of merchandise from the individual before he left the premises in a gold Ford Expedition.

Further investigation revealed that the same individual was linked to three prior incidents in which he allegedly altered item prices at self-checkout registers by scanning lower-priced tags. These “ticket-switching” incidents occurred between May 8 and May 15, 2025. The combined total of merchandise value connected to these thefts equals $1,012.48.

Detectives used multiple investigative techniques, which ultimately led to the identification of Nicholas Tollner as the primary suspect.

On January 7, 2026, detectives located Nicholas Tollner at his residence and took him to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

–Florida State Statute 812.014 (2c1), Grand Theft ($750–$5,000), a third-degree felony
