ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Pete High Green Devils are the top ranked girls basketball team in Class 5A-Region 3. And one of its youngest players is a big reason why.
Sophomore Shaw Summer plays a lot older than she actually is. At six feet, she literally stands out on the court. But then when her skills are on display, that’s when she really shines.

Shaw leads the team in nearly every statistical category, including scoring, rebounds, assists and steals
“I like the ability to compete and make new friendships and be a leader on the court,” Shaw said.
In helping St. Pete rise to the top, Shaw leads her team in nearly every statistical category, including scoring, rebounds, assists and steals. Basically, she can do it all on the court.
“I feel like I have a very strong work ethic and I’m willing to get better,” she said. “And that I can be a leader, which I wasn’t really a leader before.”
“IQ, very smart player. She’s obviously long, tall player, that helps,” head coach Chris Hanlon said. “And she can play inside and outside and good defender as well. Just kind of all around.”
St. Pete has a few seniors, including starter Quay Curry. Coupled with it’s the youth movement, led by Shaw, the Green Devils are poised for big things this season.
“We’re all willing to compete and we sacrifice things for each other,” Shaw said. “We play together as a team and I feel like we’re all super young, so we can grow together and build our chemistry.”
