January 8, 2026 – Port Charlotte, FL

A man was arrested after shooting and killing his landlord in a home on Van Buren Avenue in Port Charlotte.

On January 7, 2026, at approximately 1:39 PM, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 23000 block of Van Buren Avenue in Port Charlotte, Florida, in reference to a 911 call of a shooting.

The Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. Detectives collected physical evidence and obtained statements from several subjects. The investigation determined that Jordan Patrick Ruddy (1/10/1987) was in a physical altercation with his landlord while at the residence. During the altercation, Ruddy discharged the firearm several times, striking and killing the victim. Ruddy was located on scene and placed into custody by detectives for Failure to Register as a Felon, Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon, and Second-Degree Murder.

At the time of this release, Ruddy is being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
