TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A protest and vigil was held on the steps of the Old Florida Capitol building Thursday evening to protest actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and to honor Rennee Nicole Good.
The Minneapolis woman was shot and killed by an ICE officer in her car, sparking protests across the nation.
Protesters held signs aloft that said, “ICE murdered Renee,” “peace to Minnesota” and “killer ICE off our streets.”

Brandon Beckett, a member of Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance, attended the demonstration.
“We’re standing with Renee Nicole Good, and we’re standing up against ICE. And I think the people at home need to find somewhere to get involved, no matter which way they can, and stand up against ICE and this tyrannical government,” Beckett said.

The capital city protest comes the same night as a new shooting by federal officers in Oregon left two people wounded and elicited more scrutiny of enforcement operations across the country.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, President Donald Trump and others in his administration have repeatedly characterized the Minneapolis shooting as an act of self-defense and cast Good as a villain, suggesting she used her vehicle as a weapon to attack the officer who shot her.

The Department of Homeland Security also defended the actions of the officers in Portland, saying the shooting occurred after a Venezuelan man with alleged gang ties and who was involved in a recent shooting tried to “weaponize” his vehicle to hit the officers.
It wasn’t clear yet if witness video corroborates that account.
