A community fan favorite will be making a long-awaited comeback.

To kick off its 30th season, City Theatre will hold its “New Beginnings” event at 5:30 p.m., on Jan. 10, at the Village Hall Turtle Fountain. A reception will be held at 5 p.m.

Originally founded on Key Biscayne in 1996, the local company wants to celebrate its anniversary by bringing programming back to its roots–our Island Paradise.

City Theatre was created by Key Biscayne residents Susan J. Westfall, Stephanie Norman and Elena Wohl. It has provided engaging events on the Key for three decades thanks to the support of the Village of Key Biscayne.

Its return marks an important moment for the company and the village’s commitment to bringing theatre to community spaces.

The night will feature readings of short plays by professional actors, live music and a moderated audience conversation.

“Key Biscayne is where City Theatre began,” Margaret M. Ledford, Artistic Director of City Theatre said. “Celebrating our 30th season here feels both meaningful and fitting. City Reads is about bringing people together around stories, and there’s no better place to begin than the community that made this work possible.”

After its kickoff event, City Reads will host events on Feb. 14, March 14, April 11 and May 9, with locations announced in advance.

All City Reads events are free and open to the public.
