ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A prescribed burn is set to ignite the natural landscape of Savannas Preserve State Park on Friday, aiming to enhance ecosystem health and reduce wildfire risks across 340 acres of diverse terrain.

The St. Lucie County Fire District announced that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Savannas Preserve State Park prescribed burn will take place if weather conditions allow.

Officials said that the burn will cover about 340 acres of scrub, scrubby flatwoods, and sawgrass marsh.
