Viewer discretion advised.***A former tennis coach is facing charges in connection with rape and child sex charges involving multiple victims in the 1980s, according to the Greensboro Police Department. Douglas Wade Booth, 71, is charged with one count of second-degree rape, two counts of indecent liberties with a child, one count of felony child abuse, and two counts of second-degree sexual offense. Greensboro police said Booth was arrested on Dec. 16 in California under extradition orders. On Thursday, he was transported to Greensboro, where he was held on a $2 million bond. His bond was later reduced to $1 million. Police said Booth and the reported victims were from Pensacola, Florida, and they traveled across the country for tennis tournaments, including to Greensboro. Booth was the executive director for the Florida section of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for about 29 years, police said. At the time of the alleged sexual assaults, Booth was the victims’ tennis coach, according to investigators. Booth appeared in court on Friday, where new details were released around the case, claiming he had sexual relations with two juveniles while they traveled to games, staying in their rooms while he claimed he was trying to protect them, according to investigators. It was also revealed that there was an additional victim. One of the victims said they reported the incident to the USTA. WXII 12 News has reached out to the USTA for a response, but has not received a statement. Booth was stripped of his passport and ordered not to have any contact with any minors under any circumstances. Booth will appear in court again on Jan. 29.
