The final puppy up for adoption after being treated for a Parvo infection was placed into his new home Friday afternoon in Clearwater
A heartbreaking case of animal abuse in Largo officially has a happy ending for nine puppies and four dogs rescued from breeders charged with felony cruelty.
The last of the puppies, named after Santa’s reindeer and abandoned with two female Shiba Inus, all with Parvo infections, is in his “furever” home.
“Prancer” didn’t have to go far to live with his new owners who adopted him just hours ago.
“I wanted a strong name for him, not that Prancer is not,” says his new owners, Karina Simpson, and her two sons. “But I wanted a strong name that shows that he’s a fighter, since he was one of the critical puppies; so we changed his name to Cooper.”
Only weeks old, Cooper is already crashing the party for the three other Chihuahuas in the Simpson family, who are years older.
“We’re in the little puppy honeymoon phase right now which we haven’t had that in years,” she adds. “So we’re pretty excited about it.”
Bruce Perry and Genell Guy in Pinellas Park took in Vixen and Rudolph and have no plans to change their names.
“They definitely have rescued me, I think Bruce too,” Guy says. “Vixen’s name fits her very well. She’s cute and she knows it.”
The puppies were two litters left in a bin in a park along with two momma dogs in December. A few weeks later, Largo police traced the dogs to a home in the city and found 4 more male adult dogs living in filth, including Polar, who now lives in Tampa with owner Jamile Boukorras.
“He’s like the goodest boy,” she says. “There’s nothing bad to say; he’s so loving.”
Three people have been arrested in connection to the animal abuse case, including the couple living in a Largo home. They are both facing a dozen felony abuse charges. Detectives think there may also be dogs buried in the backyard.
