FORT MYERS – A dramatic rescue unfolded when a vehicle plunged into a retention pond off I-75 Exit 136. South Trail Fire & Rescue responded to the single-vehicle crash.
Both occupants managed to escape the sinking vehicle and took refuge on top of it, as they were unable to swim.
Rescue teams, including Squad 63 and Battalion Chief 60, deployed a rescue swimmer equipped with a life jacket and a rescue board to assist the pair safely to shore.
The City of Fort Myers Fire Department also aided in the rescue, ensuring both individuals were safely brought to land.
The victims were then transferred to Lee County Emergency Medical Services for patient care.
