It’s a pretty good time to be a Miami Hurricanes fan.
Not only did the team prove without a shadow of a doubt that it belonged in the 12-team College Football Playoff field, but it ran through a who’s who of the top teams in the bracket — No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 6 Ole Miss — to reach the national championship game.
And if the Hurricanes can take down No. 1 Indiana on Jan. 19, they will have pulled off one of the more improbable, yet impressive, national title wins in college football history.
In addition to the buzz surrounding Miami’s run to the CFP title game, the school is also primed to make some big moves in the transfer portal as well.

According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, the Hurricanes are hosting a slew of top transfer portal players this weekend including quarterback Sam Leavitt, linebacker Rasheem Biles, offensive tackle Josiah Thompson, pass-rusher Caleb Herring, and wide receiver Cam Vaughn.
Leavitt is the unquestioned prize of that group, and according to On3’s Pete Nakos, Miami may have surpassed LSU and head coach Lane Kiffin as the favorites to land the Arizona State alum out of the portal.
“Hurricanes getting a visit has this recruitment trending in their direction at this point,” Nakos said. “The visit will have to go well, and Leavitt has options, but Miami will offer the chance to start Day 1 and compete for a national title.”

Added Wiltfong: “LSU has created some buzz in the Leavitt sweepstakes but Miami is not to be slept on for the former Arizona State passer. [Head coach Mario] Cristobal and company have had magic at the position coming out of the portal from No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward last season to Carson Beck who has the program playing for it all a week for Monday.”
Leavitt, the No. 1-ranked QB in the transfer portal, threw for 4,513 yards, 34 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in two seasons at Arizona State.
If the 21-year-old signal-caller were to sign with Miami, he would replace Carson Beck, who’s led the Hurricanes to a 13-2 record and national title game appearance. It would mark the third straight season Miami found its starting quarterback via the portal.
