Fort Lauderdale Police on Sunday announced the arrest of a 17-year-old boy in connection with the fatal New Year’s Eve shooting of a teenager near Beach Place on Fort Lauderdale beach.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel is not publishing the suspect’s name since he is a minor.
Police were called to 17 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., where they found 17-year-old Joshua Gipson Jr. with a gunshot wound, according to statement at the time from Sgt. Patrick O’Brien, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale Police.
Gipson was taken as a trauma alert to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Fugitive Unit along with the members of the U.S. Marshals Service located and apprehended the suspect “without incident” on Saturday, Jan. 10, police said Sunday.
