Sam Leavitt is a hot commodity in the transfer portal with top programs across the country vying for his attention. However, only nine days after the portal officially opened, it seems like just three teams are truly still in contention for his commitment.
This month, Leavitt is set to make visits to the Tennessee Volunteers, the LSU Tigers, and, yes, none other than the Miami Hurricanes, who are also preparing for their return to the National Championship game.
Per an ESPN source, former ASU QB Sam Leavitt is headed to Miami on a visit later today. He’s been to Kentucky, LSU and Tennessee already. Hurricanes are up next. pic.twitter.com/ThGe9kBbqS

With other premier programs fading into the background, it’s time for Miami head coach Mario Cristobal to put all of his chips into the Leavitt basket to find his next go-to guy in the back field.
Sam Leavitt would be a perfect fit in Miami
Leavitt just finished his third collegiate season, which was cut short due to injury, earning 1,628 passing yards and 10 touchdowns for the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Like Carson Beck, he led his team to the College Football Playoff just two years ago, with the Sun Devils earning a first-round bye after winning the Big 12 Championship, but lost in the second round (yes, just like Beck and the Georgia Bulldogs did in 2024).
Leavitt’s experience at the top of the country is exactly what Cristobal and the Canes need in their next QB1, who will be filling Beck’s shoes after he heads to the 2026 NFL Draft.
Yes, Leavitt will be coming off an injury next season, but the 4,652 passing yards, 36 passing touchdowns, 816 rushing yards, and 10 rushing touchdowns throughout his career speak for themself.
Leavitt is the dual-threat quarterback that Beck isn’t, even with Miami’s current QB running in the game-winning touchdown in the CFP semifinal just a few days ago.
Right now, Sam Leavitt has LSU, Miami, and Tennessee seemingly in the palm of his hands. Wouldn’t be shocked if his price tag reaches Sorsby level ($5 MM). If that’s the case, I’m more than fine with the Vols passing. pic.twitter.com/4E9ZB7z0vB

Cristobal has transformed the Hurricanes into a national title-contending program once again, and he has done that by recruiting quarterback after quarterback from the transfer portal. Following in the footsteps of Cam Ward and Beck, Leavitt could be the next guy on Cristobal’s depth chart.
All that Miami has to do is convince Leavitt to pick the green and orange over the colors of Tennessee and LSU.
