An Apopka police officer was injured late Sunday after a crash involving a teenage driver in the south end of the city, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the scene near a neighborhood on Clarcona Road and 18th Street around 11:47 p.m., FHP spokesperson Migdalisis Garcia said in a statement, following reports of a marked Apopka Police Department vehicle colliding with a Hyundai sedan driven by a 19-year-old.
It’s not clear what prompted the crash. While it’s under investigation by FHP, APD spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Rudich said in an email that the teen was determined to be at fault for the crash, meaning the crash will not be internally reviewed.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to an AdventHealth hospital in the city to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“The officer was medically assessed as a precaution, but does not have any injuries,” the APD spokesperson said.
