A 24-year-old woman identified as Thalía Fernández was arrested in Hialeah after stealing several packages from the entrance of a home while the owner was present.
The incident was recorded by the security cameras at the residence, which allowed for the identification and subsequent capture by the police.
The theft happened in seconds… but the cameras caught it all
The incident occurred on December 16th at a property located on 43rd Street in eastern Hialeah, an area where such crimes are not typically reported.
According to police reports, the woman arrived at the residence in a Mercedes-Benz, opened the gate without permission, and took four packages that were on the porch.
The estimated value of the stolen items was almost 500 dollars, and they were all car parts, according to the owner of the merchandise who spoke to Telemundo 51.
Fernández was captured by the security cameras of the residence while committing the theft, which clearly documented her actions and supported the charges against her.
The owner of the house was in the backyard
One of the most striking aspects of the case is that the homeowner, Yosvany Pérez, was at home at the time of the robbery, although he was not a direct witness to the incident.
According to Pérez’s explanation to the agents, he was in the backyard doing domestic chores when the incidents occurred and did not realize what had happened until he reviewed the surveillance cameras hours later.
It was then that he discovered the exact moment when Fernández entered the property and left with the packages.
The recording was handed over to the Hialeah Police, which initiated a swift investigation due to the clear identification of the vehicle and the suspect’s face.
Charges and precautionary measures imposed by the court
Thalía Fernández was arrested this week and presented before the bail court of Miami-Dade County.
During the initial hearing, the judge decided to impose a bail of $5,000 and issued a restraining order prohibiting him from approaching the victim or her residence.
The young woman faces charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling, a legal category that can carry more severe consequences than a common theft due to the presence of the owner at the time of the crime, even if there was no direct contact with the perpetrator.
The case has drawn attention not only for the audacity of the accused but also because it reflects an increasing phenomenon: the theft of packages left at doorsteps by delivery services, commonly known as “porch pirates.”
Although in many cases these are petty thefts, authorities in cities like Hialeah have begun to strengthen surveillance and promote the installation of security cameras in residential areas.
Furthermore, the use of a high-end vehicle like the Mercedes-Benz in this robbery has sparked comments among neighbors and social media users, who are astonished by the contrast between the brand of the vehicle used and the criminal act.
