Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday will deliver his final State of the State address in Tallahassee during a joint session of the legislature.
The address will take place at the Florida Representatives Chamber in the state’s Capitol at 11:15 a.m.
DeSantis was elected governor in 2018 and reelected in 2022. Under Florida law, a governor can only serve two consecutive four-year terms.
The State of the State address coincides with the start of Florida’s 2026 legislative session, where several hot-button issues such as slashing property taxes, education and the state’s budget will be discussed.
The legislative session will end on March 13.
DeSantis on Monday held a news conference in Davie, where he announced a decrease in homeowners’ insurance premiums and slammed Broward County Public Schools for their shortcomings.
“Honestly, it’s been a disaster. Let’s just be honest. It’s been a disaster in many different ways. It is really run more to benefit the entrenched interests, particularly the school unions, rather than the parents and the students,” he said.
Since this is DeSantis’ last term as governor, several Florida lawmakers have announced their candidacy in hopes of succeeding him.
One of those people includes Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins and Republican Congressman Byron Donalds, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump.
Other candidates in the Republican primary are Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett, Azoria CEO James Fishback, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner and activist Bobby Williams.
Democratic candidates are Orlando Mayor Jerry Demings and former Republican U.S. Rep. David Jolly.
Florida’s primary elections will take place on Aug. 18, while the general election is on Nov. 3.
