Cape Coral, FL – On December 5, 2025, Cape Coral Police responded to the Pelican Sports Complex, located at 4128 Pelican Blvd, Cape Coral, regarding a reported incident of criminal mischief to city property. The incident involved extensive damage to the public restroom facilities at the complex.

Upon arrival, the responding officer met with park staff, who reported that the damage had been observed on security cameras and later confirmed on scene. The restrooms, which had been left unlocked, sustained damage including the removal and destruction of fixtures, graffiti on the walls, the discharge of a fire extinguisher inside the bathroom, and the forced entry into a locked cabinet where cleaning chemicals were taken and poured onto the floor and walls. The total estimated damage was over $1,000.

The Cape Coral Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit assumed the follow-up investigation. A detective responded to the Pelican Ball Fields and reviewed CCTV footage with Parks and Recreation personnel. Surveillance video showed one female and two males entering the area of the bathrooms in the early morning hours of December 3, 2025.

Through a subsequent investigation, detectives conducted interviews with multiple witnesses who identified themselves and others in the surveillance images and provided detailed accounts of what occurred. Witnesses stated that Preston Witten (DOB 5/11/2009) entered the restroom while the others remained outside and said Preston was the one who destroyed the bathroom, writing his name on the wall: “Preston was here.”

Detectives established probable cause to charge Witten with Criminal Mischief Over $1,000, a third-degree felony under Florida Statute 806.13(1)(b)(3). The damaged property belongs to the City of Cape Coral. Witten was arrested on January 9, 2026.
