Progress is underway at Jaycee Park in Cape Coral after months of construction delays. Crews are moving forward with significant upgrades to one of the city’s most popular parks.

WINK News was on the scene to capture the latest developments. Neighbors say construction workers have been busy, with visible improvements now appearing at the park.

The City of Cape Coral’s October update highlights the advancements. Crews have poured concrete for a bandshell and bistro, installed block walls for a dumpster area, and laid foundations for new restrooms. Work has also begun on a boardwalk that will traverse the park.

“The progress has been tremendous,” said local resident Rick Perry. “They seem to have full crews working all the time. There’s multiple machines running every day.”

Next on the agenda, crews plan to address underground plumbing, electrical conduits, and irrigation. They will then proceed with boardwalk framing, roof decking for the new restrooms, a splash pad, and sidewalks.

Not everyone is pleased with the changes. Local resident Cheryl Vandevoord expressed her concerns.

“I like the park the old way,” she said. “I like the quietness of it, and being able to sit at the benches and reflect, looking at the river, and not having a lot of people around.”

Vandevoord worries the upgrades will lead to increased traffic and noise.

Rick Perry, however, believes the upgrades will benefit the community.

“I think it’s unfortunate that it was such a controversy,” said Perry. “They need to realize that this is for everybody, so the person living inland five miles has just as much right to come here and use the park and enjoy it with their kids or grandkids as the people who live local and walk their dogs.”

The city anticipates Jaycee Park will reopen in April 2026.
