WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Florida men’s golf team started with an opening round of 12-under to earn a seven shot lead in the opening round of the Williams Cup at Eagle Point Golf Club on Sunday. 

The 12-under team round is the second-lowest this season as UF is followed by Notre Dame (-5), Texas (-4), North Carolina (-2) and N.C. State (-1) to round out top-5. Florida continues round two tomorrow at 9:55 a.m. 

Four Gators shot under par and are in the top-10 led by Luke Poulter’s 68 (-4). He is tied for second and one shot back of the individual lead. He made six birdies and had bogey-free 3-under front nine. 

Both Jack Turner and Zack Swanwick each logged rounds of 69 (-3) and are tied for 5th. It was Turner’s team-best sixth round of even and under par in his 10th round this season. 

Tied for 10th and posting a 70 (-2) was senior Parker Bell. After a +1 front nine, he finished bogey-free 3-under on the back nine. 

Rounding out the lineup is Matthew Kress (+2) in T39. 

Competing as individuals, freshmen Parker Severs and Trevor Gutschewski are playing in their second career event. Severs had a round one of 72 (E) and is T21 with Gutschewski a 73 (+1) at T29.
