Presentation at Miami-Dade School Board meeting.
Mari Tere Rojas, Miami-Dade County School Board chair and District 6 representative, during the meeting of Oct. 8, proffered agenda item B-3, recognizing the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Coral Gables Senior High School.
Seventy-five years ago, in the heart of Coral Gables, a vision was brought to life. A vision of academic excellence, spirited community, and lifelong impact. Coral Gables Senior High School first opened its doors in 1950, and from that moment, it became more than just a school; it became a home, a cornerstone, and a place where generations would grow, lead, and return with pride.
This is not just a celebration of time passed, but of the legacy built along the way. From the earliest Cavaliers who walked the halls of the school building to the students who walk them now, the school has stood as a symbol of integrity, excellence, and resilience.
Through decades of change, Coral Gables Senior High School has remained constant in its mission to educate, inspire and empower. It has seen championship teams ignite school spirit, trailblazing alumni change the world, and dedicated teachers leave lifelong imprints on their students. Its classrooms have sparked curiosity. Its campus has fostered friendship. And its traditions have endured, stronger with every year.
The “Walk Through the Decades” celebrated is more than a stroll through history. It is a reminder that every graduate, every teacher, and every staff member has helped shape the story of this school.
“The laughter, challenges, victories, and dreams shared here live on in the memories of those who called Gables home,” Rojas said.
Coral Gables Senior High School, an A-rated school, offers a challenging educational experience designed to prepare students for success in higher education. In addition to earning standard high school credits, students have access to a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment courses, providing the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school.
Those who participate in the Cavaliers Conquer College (C3) program can graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree.
Students also can pursue specialized interests through the school’s various academies.
The foundation built over the past 75 years now supports the future, one filled with innovation, opportunity, and the continued pursuit of excellence. The school campus may look different, but the heart of Gables remains the same.
