Volunteers, buddies needed for annual Night to Shine prom in Tallahassee as sign-ups continue

  • January 14, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – With the Night to Shine prom just weeks away, organizers say buddies are their greatest need and are urging community members to sign up now.

They are also accepting donations of prom attire ahead of the event’s prom boutique on January 31.

Night to Shine is a free prom experience for people with special needs, allowing guests to dress up, enjoy music and dancing, and be celebrated in an inclusive setting. Each guest is paired with a volunteer buddy who provides one-on-one support throughout the evening.

As prom night approaches, organizers say more buddies are still needed to ensure every guest can participate fully. Volunteers are also needed for behind-the-scenes roles, including setup, check-in, and event support.

In addition to volunteers, organizers are collecting new or gently used formalwear and accessories for the prom boutique, where guests can select their outfits in advance.

Registration for buddies and volunteers is open now and will close on February 6.

The Night to Shine prom itself takes place on February 13 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Tallahassee and organizers say community donations play a significant role in making every guest feel confident, celebrated, and valued.

Night to Shine Director Liz Crawford and longtime Night to Shine guest Josh Godfrey stopped by the WCTV on Wednesday morning to talk about the impact the event has on guests and volunteers alike.

WCTV’s Madison Glaser will return again this year as the event’s red carpet emcee.

Organizers say community involvement is key to making Night to Shine possible and encourage anyone interested in volunteering or donating to get involved while there is still time.

More information and registration details can be found through the official Night to Shine sign-up page.
