JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you are a Verizon customer seeing an “SOS” on your phone, the wireless carrier said it is aware and working to get all service restored to mobile devices.
Some customers experiencing the service interruption, which started around noon on Wednesday, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express frustration with the service.
According to downdetector.com, at least 177,000 customers reported outages nationwide.
No issue has been confirmed, but Verizon said engineers were actively working to identify the problem and get thousands of customers back up and running.

A handful of outage reports for other carriers also bubbled up on Wednesday — but companies like T-Mobile and AT&T quickly confirmed online that their services were operating normally. Both suggested that their customers may be encountering issues contacting people with Verizon’s service, however.
When cellular outages happen, some phone companies also urge consumers to try to connect to Wi-Fi and use internet calling. If Wi-Fi is still unavailable, there can be a limited number of other options — including sending messages via satellite on newer iPhones.
The check network status webpage on verizon.com was buffering and showing signs of lagging.
