Officials said the driver of the dump truck continued driving and was seen lowering the bed following the incident.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A road closure is in place in Pinellas County after a dump truck hit several power lines that landed on the roadway.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said this happened Thursday morning when a dump truck driving in the area of 35th Street North and Morris Street had its bed in the up position.

The bed caught the overhead power lines crossing the road from east to west, pulled and detached them from the supporting poles, officials said.

The utility pole snapped a third of the way up from the ground and landed toward the roadway, hitting other power lines along the east shoulder.

FLHSMV said the driver of the dump truck continued driving and was seen lowering the bed following the incident.

Local businesses provided footage to investigators of the crash and of the truck leaving the scene.

Drivers in the area should use alternate routes.
