An investigation is underway after police said a man tried to stab a woman, whose 8-year-old daughter was also injured in the attack in Fort Lauderdale.

Tracey Linnen said he was out of town celebrating his birthday when his daughter, Precious, and his granddaughter, Aubrey, were attacked.

“It’s been a nightmare. They didn’t want to tell me until I got home,” he said. “…We were on a cruise, and we just got back today. We didn’t know any of this was happening until we got home.”

When he returned, both his daughter and granddaughter were in the hospital.

Linnen said it all started when his daughter and her husband got into a physical fight outside of their home. Precious was knocked unconscious, he said, and when her husband threatened to stab her, her 8-year-old daughter stepped in to help.

“He was coming down with the knife, and the baby snatched it. She got cut open — down to the bone. She saved her,” Linnen said.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old Daquan Delancy. He faces several serious charges, including attempted murder and aggravated child abuse.

“We tried to make him part of the family,” Linnen said. “Sometimes it ends up being something you wish you never did.”

Precious and Aubrey were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated. The family says both are recovering.

Delancy remains behind bars in Broward County jail.
