Sunday was a rough day for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It started with the team losing in London 35-7 to the Los Angeles Rams. The Jaguars were absolutely embarrassed as they fell to 4-3, giving the team a ton to think about on the long journey home. To make matters worse, Jacksonville fans had to watch a former Jaguar thrive with his new team.

That former Jaguar is veteran corner Tyson Campbell, who was recently traded to the Cleveland Browns for Greg Newsome II and a swap of late-round picks. On Sunday, he showed up in a big way for Cleveland, recording a pick six to stretch the lead for the Browns over the Miami Dolphins. The natural reaction was what a great pickup for Cleveland.

Campbell also had a touchdown-saving tackle during the game, chasing down Miami’s speedy running back De’Von Achane. The two big plays had Browns fans thanking Jacksonville for Campbell, and had others wondering if the Jaguars made a mistake swapping out corners.

Many questioned the move when it was first announced, because Campbell is in the first season of a four-year extension, and Newsome is playing the final year of his contract. Still, first-year general manager James Gladstone was comfortable making the switch with Cleveland.

To be fair, though, both corners have had tough starts with their new teams. Greg Newsome II has unfortunately been on the wrong side of some tough catches, and Campbell had a poor Browns debut, as the Pittsburgh Steelers frequently found success with him in coverage. The Browns defensive back has bounced back, though, and now the Jaguars will have to hope Greg Newsome II can do the same. Jacksonville will then need to re-sign him. If neither of those things happen, while Campbell continues to make plays in Cleveland, this will be a stain on Gladstone’s resume.
