The voter registration deadline was Oct. 6, and there is no early voting for this election.

SEMINOLE, Fla. — Seminole residents will be able to cast their ballot for mayor in November.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for registered voters in the city to choose between current Mayor Leslie Waters and Marcus Barber.

The mayor serves for three years, votes in the city council and presides over its meetings. The position has “no administrative or executive duties,” according to the city’s charter, except in specific cases or as established in the municipal laws.

According to the city’s website, Waters has been on the council of the municipality since 2009. Then, she served as vice mayor from March 2010 to March 2011 and as interim mayor from November 2012 to November 2013 before becoming mayor in 2013.

Waters also served as a state representative in Florida from 1998 to 2006, according to the city’s official website. She has also been an adjunct professor in Political Science for USFSP and Eckerd College, and worked for an insurance company.

Marcus Barber’s campaign website said he is a “proud veteran of 20 years,” and states that he was named Leader of the Year twice.

“I have flown over 3,000 hours and been on countless worldwide missions with maximum success, to include responding to Hurricane Katrina,” Barber said on his website.

On his business website, Revive in Time CPR, it states that Barber served as a helicopter crew chief and rescue swimmer.

He also received the “Good Samaritan Award” from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, given to “those who have assisted deputies during various calls or incidents,” according to PCSO’s website.
