TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Energy is high on the Highest of Seven Hills for Homecoming week, and the celebrations have already begun.
Thousands are going to be in town this week and into the weekend for Florida A&M University’s Homecoming.
One of the events, Market Monday, kicked off, where student business owners set up booths. The Marching 100 also performed, which always gets the crowd going.
A student artist, Miles Mallory, said his mom went to FAMU, and he grew up attending homecoming. He said he appreciates all the traditions that have lasted through the years.
Mallory had several paintings on display and said his inspiration comes from the people he sees on campus every day.
“The people that’s in my artwork, you’ll see that they walk around campus, they come to our booths when we’re vending,” Mallory said. “It’s just a beautiful feeling to be able to share what you love and show them what they love about themselves through the artwork.”

SaNanda Thomas is also a FAMU student vendor. She makes custom crochet apparel.
“At first, it was just like therapeutic and nice to do something that got me off my phone,” Thomas said. “So, this has helped me meet new people and just get my brand out there.”
Thomas said she is grateful to be part of this year’s homecoming experience, especially since her love for the school began long before she came to college.
“I’m born and raised in Tallahassee, so I’ve seen homecoming as just a little kid,” Thomas said. “It really is a tradition.”
Aside from students celebrating homecoming, alumni are also looking forward to the week.
Co-owner of Earley’s Kitchen, Jay Morrell, is a FAMU graduate and Marching 100 alum. He said this time of year is good for local businesses, but, more importantly, he cherishes the time spent with familiar faces throughout the years.
“Football season brings a different energy itself,” Morrell said. “But, homecoming, we throw records out of the window, and we just look forward to getting together, having fun, hanging out with the old crew, and hopefully, get a win out of the situation, but if not, it’s still homecoming.”
For the evening, FAMU has a movie night planned on the field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
