ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. — Kindergarten students at Douglas L. Jamerson Elementary School in St. Petersburg got a rare taste of winter on Friday — snow.
Each year, the school’s PTA brings in two tons of snow to reward students for their first-semester achievements. This year’s annual “Snow Day” happened to fall on the coldest day of 2026 so far.
Jamerson Principal Angela Lewis, who has led the school for two years, says the event is more than just fun. She says it helps bring learning to life, especially as kindergartners are currently studying how weather affects people.
For many of the students, it was their first time ever seeing snow.
Douglas L. Jamerson Elementary is a magnet school that specializes in math and engineering.
