Looking to buy tickets to the College Football Playoff national championship game? Well, it’s going to cost a pretty penny.
The unbeaten No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers and the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes are set to battle for the CFP national championship on Monday. The national title game is being played at the Hurricanes’ home field of Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
And the get-in price on the secondary ticketing marketplace for the national title game was approaching the $3,000 mark as of Thursday.
The cheapest listings for a set of two tickets were $2,822 on each TickPick, $2,845 each on Vivid Seats and $2,982 each on SeatGeek. Those prices included fees and were for seats located in the uppermost deck of the stadium.
Miami-Indiana could go down as the most expensive national championship game on record by average ticket purchase price, according to TickPick data. Last year’s Notre Dame-Ohio State title game smashed the previous record with an average ticket purchase price of $2,898, but Miami-Indiana sits way ahead at $4,196 as the championship game nears, according to TickPick.
TickPick said 32.2% of ticket purchases have come from the state of Florida, with around 17.4% from Indiana and 11.6% from Illinois.
”The fanfare around Indiana, a school that has taken the college football world by storm, is playing a significant role in driving ticket prices. Following a massive program overhaul last season under [head coach Curt] Cignetti, Hoosier fans have been eagerly awaiting a chance at their storybook ending,” said Kyle Zorn, director of content at TickPick.
“We’re seeing a notable amount of Indiana fans making the trip for the matchup. You pair that with Miami’s unexpected run and this being a home game, the combination of the two storylines is making it the most in-demand National Championship we’ve seen on record.”
The Hoosiers are looking to complete a perfect season to secure their first ever national title. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, can cap their debut CFP appearance with a championship triumph on their home field.
