GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – We typically see atmospheric moisture ahead of cold fronts that bring some rain before the cooler temperatures settle in.
But two rounds of arctic air, known as a double cold front, bring the possibility of another type of precipitation to the south-east United States: snow.
Sandwiched between the two cold air masses is a patch of precipitable water that could fall as mixed precipitation, or even snow, to some areas in Florida’s panhandle, Georgia and Alabama on Sunday, Jan. 18.
Most regions, like North Central Florida, will just see showers.
Others, like areas west of Tallahassee, Florida, and towns south of Atlanta, Georgia, could see mixed precipitation or snow!

Tallahassee’s National Weather Service office announced a Winter Weather Advisory for Sunday morning, saying up to an inch of snow could reach Jackson County.
A Winter Storm Warning was also issued by the NWS office in Peachtree City, Georgia for Sunday morning. They say most areas will see less than an inch of snowfall, while some could see up to 4 inches.
The multiple rounds of cold fronts help NCFL get away from these unseasonably warm temperatures. Gainesville reached 83° on Jan. 11, according to the NWS almanac.
