The UNC women’s basketball program left little doubt on Sunday afternoon in Tallahassee.

Behind a balanced scoring attack, North Carolina cruised to victory over the Florida State Seminoles. The Tar Heels have now won two straight games after dropping back-to-back contests.

Courtney Banghart’s team brought it on both ends of the floor from start to finish. The Tar Heels claimed a 17-8 advantage after one quarter of play, and extended its lead to 19 points before the teams made their way to the locker room.

Once they returned to the court, the UNC women’s basketball program continued to pour it on.

Ciera Toomey led the balanced scoring attack by leading the Tar Heels with 14 points. Nyla Harris (13 points), Lanie Grant (12 points, all of which came from beyond the arc), and Reniya Kelly (11 points) also scored in double figures, while 12 players scored at least once.

As a whole, the UNC women’s basketball program connected on 47% of its shot attempts, including knocking down 13 three-pointers. They also capitalized at the free throw line, connecting on all 9 attempts from the charity stripe.

Defensively, North Carolina held Florida State to just 29% from the floor. They also forced 17 turnovers in what was another strong effort on the defensive end for the Tar Heels. They also out-rebounded the host Seminoles 40-28, as five different Tar Heels recorded at least three rebounds in a team-wide effort to control the basketball.

Starting to build some momentum, the UNC women’s basketball program will make a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Thursday night. They will then wrap up the month of January when they host Syracuse on Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
