WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — As a major cold front sweeps across the state, local officials have issued urgent alerts and opened emergency warming centers to protect residents from dangerously low temperatures.

St. Lucie County: Percy Peek Gym

In partnership with the City of Fort Pierce, the nonprofit In the Image of Christ is operating a shelter at the Percy Peek Gym at 2902 Ave. D.

Hours: Opens today, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. and closes Monday at 8 a.m.Transportation: Free ART bus rides are available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at locations including the Port St. Lucie Intermodal Station, Publix Plaza at Taylor Creek, Pinewood Park, Prima Vista Crossing Bus Stop, and the Fort Pierce Intermodal Facility.Okeechobee County: RiteLife Services

Okeechobee County Emergency Management has activated a warming center at RiteLife Services at 202 NE 2nd Street, Suite #5.

Hours: Opens at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, and closes at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19.Requirements: Guests are required to bring their own bedding, hygiene products, and snacks.Martin County: Shelter CanceledDespite previous plans to open a site on Sunday night, Martin County officials issued an update on Jan. 17 stating that the cold weather shelter will not open on Sunday, Jan. 18, due to the updated weather forecast.
